The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income (generally, $42,000 and below) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. Most locations also offer free electronic filing. This service is nice, because it is done while you wait, and the IRS generally does not penalize for errors made (if they are made) by VITA volunteers (this of course does not preclude tax evasion =] )."
I can attest that this works, and it's another great cheap way to get your taxes done. We've done it once when we lived in MO, but I don't know where you'd go around here to do it. You do have to be careful though, b/c sometimes these volunteers aren't as thorough as they should be.
